Join Dzogchen Khenpo Choga Rinpoche and the Dzogchen Buddha Path Sangha as we commemorate Lhabab Düchen (Buddha’s Mother’s Day) and celebrate the winners of the 2026 Dzogchen Buddha Path Sacred Arts Competition!

Lhabab Düchen is one of the four great holy days of the Tibetan Buddhist calendar. The festival marks Buddha’s descent back to the human realm after spending three months in the God Realm of the Thirty-Three, teaching Dharma to his mother, Mayadevi, and the celestial beings there — an act of profound filial devotion, as Buddha ascended to the heavens expressly to repay his mother’s kindness by liberating her through his teaching.

Falling on the 22nd day of the ninth Tibetan lunar month, Lhabab Düchen is considered one of the most auspicious days of the year — the karmic results of our actions on this day are multiplied by one hundred million or more, making it a powerful occasion for Sangha to gather, learn about our Supreme Guide Buddha Shakyamuni, and rejoice in our virtuous activities. It is also a day to reflect on our own parents and the immeasurable kindness they have shown us, following the Buddha’s own example of gratitude and care.

Buddhist communities have long marked this day not only through prayer, but through creative offering — sharing art, music, and poetry as ways of honoring the Buddha’s return. Sacred images are unveiled and consecrated, intricate mandalas are crafted, and artistic performances portray moments from the Buddha’s life. In this same spirit, wisdom is given form: teachings that might otherwise remain abstract are made visible, audible, and felt, echoing the way Buddha’s own descent brought his teachings back to the human realm for the benefit of all beings.

As part of our celebration, we’re honored to announce the winners of the 2026 Dzogchen Buddha Path Sacred Arts Competition, held this year with the theme of Great Dharma Promulgation. Artists from across our community have submitted to the competition their glorious artistic creations in the service of promoting Dharma throughout the world. Now, please join us as we celebrate their work and honor the dedication, skill, and devotion each artist brought to expressing the Dzogchen Buddha Path for the benefit of all mother sentient beings!
